Unlock Your Destiny
Embracing God’s Purpose For Your Life
If you want to unlock your destiny and embrace God’s purpose for your life, this video will help you see something obvious that most people simply miss.
I’d like you to envision an intense moment behind the wheel where just a moment ago you were relaxed and enjoying your drive. Suddenly, an oncoming car swerves across the center line, hurtling towards you. Your heart races and time slows. In a hair-raising instant, the other driver violently jerks their vehicle back, narrowly missing you.
This tale goes far beyond the perils of texting and driving when it becomes a metaphor for the times when our own lives drift, sometimes far from our intended path. To unlock God’s purpose and destiny in our lives, WE NEED TO FIRST RECOGNIZE HOW NO ONE – ABSOLUTELY NO ONE – EVER CROSSES THE CENTER LINE DELIBERATELY. Drifting is never intentional. Instead, we take our eyes off the road, eyes off our path, and that is when the drift begins.
The Bible even mentions drift when it says, “We must pay the most careful attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away” (Hebrews 2:1).
We can see this drift inside a compelling story about two married men, both twenty-five years old, who each bought their first home. The first man invested in the creation of a magnificent man cave with a giant TV in his basement. It became his sanctuary to unwind with a beer and sports after a long day’s work. Meanwhile, the second man chose to create a thriving garden, investing his spare time in gardening alongside his wife. As they worked together, they listened to inspiring podcasts that contributed to their personal growth in various aspects of life.
Fast forward two decades and let’s follow their paths where the first man found himself stuck in the same job, burdened with an extra 20 pounds, and divorced. In stark contrast, the second man made a consistent climb up the corporate ladder, acquiring a thrilling job with substantial responsibilities. He boasted excellent physical fitness and a flourishing family life.
It was as if one of them had diligently kept his focus on the road to a fulfilling life, while the other had somehow, someway drifted to someplace he never intended to be.
The disparity between these men in just two decades is truly remarkable. Consider the implications if these trajectories were to extend indefinitely—what an unimaginable separation it would become.
This slip sliding away is so prevalent that the Bible contains numerous calls for us to pay attention so we don’t drift away from our best future. Here are just a few more notable examples:
- “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart” (Proverbs 4:20-21).
- “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14, NIV)
These words all express God’s heart…. He loves us so much that he only wants the very best for us, and like any good parent, wants to make sure he has our attention, so we stay the course, and don’t accidentally drift into trouble.
Unfortunately, there is no magic pill or three-step sermon that will keep you from drifting. Instead, it requires us to pay close attention to where we’ve been and where we are going. It’s like a re-calibrating, taking inventory, or going on a trip where we follow a map. If we don’t do this, we most assuredly will drift or even get lost.
