RIGHT HAND OF GOD – Why I Do Not Need to be Afraid
When I was a boy, my dad would take me by the hand, look me in the face and call me his right-hand man. It made me feel trusted, needed and empowered all at the same time. Being a right hand man meant that I was important and I loved when he called me, “My right hand man!”
The right hand is something that signifies strength, power and authority. The words “right hand” occurs 166 times in the Bible and during Jesus trial he said, “from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”
My favorite “right hand” verse is where God is talking to us as his children. He says:
Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
Can we even begin to imagine the strength and power in God’s righteous right hand? God says he is holding us with his right hand.
Then, just three verses later God says:
For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand;
It is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you”
Now God is talking about holding our right hand. When you put the two verses together, you see that God’s right hand is holding our right hand. And the only way that can happen is when God is facing us. He is looking at us – face to face!
God’s powerful right hand holds our right hand to give us his strength. What an amazing God we have! His hand is reaching out for you right now. He sees you and loves you. Today, will you take the time to reach back to him?
