AM I A FAILURE? – Listening to God’s Voice Instead – Daily Devotional
Suppose you spent all day making a scrumptious Thanksgiving dinner that everyone loved. Young and old devoured the food and complimented your cooking except your neighbor (whom you graciously invited because they had nowhere else to go) who said, “The meal was good, but the stuffing didn’t have much flavor.”
After everyone went home, would you focus on all the compliments or the lone critic?
Unfortunately, many of us would replay the critic’s words. It makes me wonder how many of us spend chunks of our life feeling inadequate, unworthy or guilty so we rarely hear all the compliments that God gives us.
I heard someone describe it this way: “I don’t feel right if I don’t feel wrong.”
I’ll bet Satan roars when we listen to his lies about us: “You’re no good. You’re a failure, you’re angry. You’re selfish like you’ve always been. You’re just a wrong and unredeemable sinner.
Why listen to all this trash talk from a liar and a bully? Shouldn’t we be listening closely to what our Father God says about us? The Bible says:
- You are made in God’s image and likeness Gen1:26
- You are God’s child! John 1:12
- You are a friend of Jesus! John 15:15
- The Holy Spirit dwells inside you! 1Cor6:19
- You have been set free from sin in Christ! Gal5:1
So what song do you choose to hear? The glorious song of your Maker, or the dirge of the devil? God made you just right! And the stuffing inside you? God even stuffed you with his special flavoring of precious goodness.
Let’s pray! “Dear God, Thank you so much for stuffing me with your goodness and love. For making me in your image! For setting me free!”
My friends! Who are you going to listen to today?!
