DRAW NEAR TO GOD – Daily Devotional – Little Big Things
In 1557 the Geneva Bible became the first Bible to be translated into English. Now everyday people could finally read the word of God! In that Bible Genesis 4:1 says, “Adam knew Eve, his wife.” He knew her. The New International Version translates the same passage as, “Adam made love to his wife Eve” and the Christian Standard Bible says, “The man was intimate with his wife Eve.”
When we put the various translations together, we learn that when “Adam knew Eve” it meant that they were intimate. And this is how God Almighty wants us to be with him! He wants us to know him. To run to him, seek him and rest with him – because we want to. Because it gives us joy and delight!
King David heard God calling him as we read, “My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” Psalm 27:8 NLT
Talk with me – be with me – spend time with me. . . This is what great lovers want – and do! Sometimes they just sit and hold hands, other times they share their thoughts and plans. When they have worries and sorrows, there is no place better than to be together.
Like two lovers who instinctively move toward each other, we are urged, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” James 4:8 ESV. Yes, God wants us to be intimate with him and “this is the way to have eternal life – to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.” John 17:3 NLT
You see, God does not want to control us or tell us what to do. . . He wants nothing more than our joy. The joy of intimacy with him. Wow! No wonder the Bible says, “Be still and know that I am Lord.” Psalm 46:10 NLT
Be still – rest with me, wake with me, work with me, walk with me, live with me, be intimate with me – your Lord. What an amazing place to live – to all day long be in the tender arms of your true love!
I cannot even imagine a greater place to be. Jesus is calling you. God is knocking on your door, and he cannot wait to for you to know him.
