WHAT DOES GOD THINK OF ME? – Am I a Success or a Failure? – Daily Devotions
What does God think of me? Am I a success or a failure? Is God proud of me or disappointed? The world has so many impossible standards, and so many different ways to measure success. In fact. . .
We live in a world of measurements. At birth, they check your height and weight. In school, they gauge you with grades. In sports, they record your speed, hitting, throwing, fielding and passing highs, lows and averages. Even at your death, everyone wants to know your age.
It’s strange how people measure success. Some use age associated milestones like these:
I’m a success if:
- I’m not peeing in my pants at age 4 or at age 94
- I have friends by age 12 and still have a few at 92
- I get my driver’s license at 16 and can still drive at 86
- I get a job by age 15 and quit by 55
So, imagine a 75-year-old man with a lifetime of happy relationships and success in business. This man finds it increasingly hard to hold his bladder because his prostate is rapidly failing, to the point where he’ll soon need to wear a diaper again. According to the success standards of not peeing in his pants before age 94, he would not qualify as a success. Funny – Hah!
My personal problem is that I’ve lived most of my life on “Someday Isle.” You know. . . “Someday, I’ll accomplish this.” “Someday, I’ll get to that.” “Someday, I’ll have everything just so.” You know what I mean: no more messes, no worries or mistakes. Someday, I’ll have life just the way I want it. Then, I’ll finally be a success.
Instead of sitting on “Someday Isle,” let’s answer some questions about right now. Today questions. Let’s start by asking, “How are you already a success?” “What does God think about you?” “How has God blessed you?” “How has God been involved in your life and relationships?”
Think these questions through.
Such little questions that offer an enormous opportunity to grow. When you truly consider what God thinks about you instead of getting caught up on what you think about yourself, you cannot help but conclude that God loves you the way you are. . . right now. God made you. He wants the best for you, and he took the punishment you deserve.
Why? Because God loves you so much, he wants to be with you today. . . not later on some pretend “someday island” when you allegedly have it all together. He loves you right now and will continue to love you whenever and wherever. . . even if you’re sitting on “Someday Isle.” He wants to love you for eternity!
Instead of listening to how the world views success, and how the devil labels you a failure, focus on what your Father says about you.
