BE ONE LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS – Daily Devotional
Imagine walking all alone, through the woods, at night. Instinctively, your arms move slightly forward in case you trip, and ears replace your squinting eyes in the darkness. Every sense shifts into high-alert and if you’re like most people – you’ll be scared.
From this perspective, read, “while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.” John 20:1 While it was still dark. . . Mary Magdalene must have been very bold indeed!!
Mary Magdalene was a woman who traveled with Jesus disciples. Remember, there were no Holiday Inns, flush toilets or wayside rests. Talk about bold.
This lady supported Jesus financially, proclaimed Jesus as the Christ and stood at the foot of the cross even though the disciples had fled. She was also the first person to talk with Jesus after the resurrection. What an inspiration of boldness. I want to be like her!
Being bold requires taking risk. Being bold requires courage but it does not mean to be reckless, rash or fearless. Instead, I believe that being afraid is a prerequisite to being bold.
My wife, Julie, told me her acronym for bold. She said in today’s world, as a Christian, to be bold B.O.L.D. means to “Be One Light in the Darkness.”
Let’s pray. “Dear God; How we can be bold like Mary Magdalene. How can we shine light into a dark situation? Who can we reach out to help? What can we do today to make a positive difference in someone’s life?”
