LIFE’S CHALLENGES – How to Handle the Storms of Life – Daily Devotional

When storms come into your life, when you have real troubles like sickness, job loss or death, how do you handle them?

Jesus gave us the secrets to handling life’s storms inside a story about two men we’ll call Mr. Sand and Mr. Rock.  Here are the facts of the story:

  1. Both men heard God’s word
  2. Both were carpenters who built houses
  3. Both experienced a huge storm
  4. Sand’s house fell down in a big crash but Mr. Rock’s house stood firm.

The only difference between these guys was that Mr. Rock had God’s word as his foundation and Mr. Sand’s life was based on other things.  Mt 7:24 -27

You see, Mr. Rock knew he was weak when left to himself, so he made his life strong by uniting himself with God as his foundation.  He did this by filling his mind with true and gracious thoughts until he oozed with joy, thanksgiving and praise.   Pretty soon these lovely traits gushed out of him and spilled all over the people in his life.

It seemed that Mr. Rock lived out his faith, but Mr. Sand only heard God’s words at church but never worked them into his life.

Jesus said we would have trouble – dark storms – in this life. John 16:33 But he also said we can be as solid as a Rock when God is our foundation – our number one relationship.

So what do you pray about?

Do you ask God to keep the storms away?   Or, do you ask God to be your foundation – your rock – so you remain safe and strong during the stormy times of life?
