NOBODY’S PERFECT – The Bible Is Flawless – Daily Devotions
Nobody’s perfect. It’s true! We can try and try, but eventually we all mess up. Honestly, I mess up every day. Even on my very best days I still sin, have selfish thoughts and suffer with impatience. We all fall short, fall down and fall apart because nobody’s perfect.
So, what in this life is truly flawless? If you Google “flawless diamonds” you’ll discover, yes, even they have imperfections.
And on the topic of diamonds, think of a diamond heist. Everyone enjoys a book or movie about a perfect heist. But what always ends up happening? We discover that no heist is perfect. Even if the thieves get away with their crime, some clue is always left behind. There are no perfect diamonds, no perfects heists, and no perfect people.
I talked with a 68-year-old wealthy man who had recently retired. He had time, money, freedom, health and was still good looking and happily married. His problem was boredom. He had no idea what to do anymore. That’s because nobody’s perfect, no situation is perfect, no job is perfect nor is any retirement perfect.
So what is there for us to hope in? Money? Fame? Beauty? They’re all flawed too. Just as we get old, these all get old. They too, fail, fall down and fall apart.
So, what IS perfect and flawless? What can we truly look too, put our hope in and desire more than anything? Only God. Psalm 18:30 says, “As for God, his way is perfect. The Lord’s Word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.”
In our imperfect world, I find so much comfort and reassurance being able to totally trust in my God. He brings rest to my tired, imperfect heart, my weary mind, and my wishy-washy attitude. All I need to do is sit quietly with him.
Yes, God’s way is perfect. His Word is flawless. As the great theologian, Timothy Keller, says, “It is we who read hastily, skip prayer, and fail to meditate on his Word who find it confusing. The best gift in the world next to the Word Incarnate, Jesus himself, is God’s written Word, and it will ignite your heart if you give it a chance.”
My friends, let’s ignite our hearts with the flawless Word of God. There is nothing better. Nothing more reliable. Nothing more powerful than spending time with God, gazing at his flawless beauty.
