Psalm 23:6 – God’s Goodness and Mercy – Daily Devotionals

Psalm 23:6 is profound declaration of God’s love and care for each of us.  I promise, when you really know what the words of Psalm 23 verse 6 really mean, they will give you amazing comfort, assurance, and hope for your future.  It is a blessing that you won’t want to miss.

In Psalm 23 we’ve already seen how we are sheep who follow our shepherd.  But as you read verse six, be sure to take notice of WHAT IS FOLLOWING YOU when you follow the shepherd. . .  Verse six says,  “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

What’s following you?  Goodness and Mercy.  And what are we following:  Our Shepherd.  In other words, we find ourselves in the saddle – the sweet-spot.  Jesus, our shepherd leads and protects in the front, and God’s goodness and mercy protects us from behind!  We don’t have to worry or fear because we are in His care. We are His beloved, on both sides and He watches over us.

Think about what we already know about Psalm 23 for a moment.  Our God who created the heavens and the earth, who holds the universe in His hands, loves us and DELIGHTS IN US.  He is our shepherd.  Then he prepares a table for us, anoints us with oil, and fills our cup to overflowing.  He celebrates us and rejoices over us with singing, the same way we do for a newborn baby! What an incredible thought! It’s almost too good to be true, yet it is!

All we have to do is RECEIVE His love, His grace, and His mercy. We don’t have to earn it or work for it. It’s a free gift that He offers us through His Son, Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become part of God’s family, and we can dwell in His house forever.

It’s a beautiful picture of redemption and restoration, of being reconciled to God and living in His presence forever. We don’t have to fear death or the unknown because we know that we will be with our Heavenly Father, surrounded by His love and goodness for all eternity.

So let me ask, do you want to experience the goodness and mercy of God in your life? Do you want to dwell in His house forever? The invitation is open to you today and all you have to do is say, “Yes, God, I want to follow You. I want to receive Your love and mercy. I want to live in Your presence forever.”

It’s a decision that will change your life!  You will no longer walk alone, but you will have a shepherd who leads and guides you every step of the way.  And when you do, you will be followed by God’s goodness and mercy, and you will experience His love in ways you never thought possible.
