WE ARE CREATED IN GOD’S IMAGE – Daily Devotional – Little Big Things
The block of wood was just that and nothing more. Food for a fire or trash for the garbage truck. It was nothing more than an empty block of wood except to my 73-year old friend, Dave. He picked it up and carefully examined it from every angle, and with his strong and capable hands, started to carve.
The buffalo hunt scene in “Dances with Wolves” had always intrigued Dave and for more than a decade, had wanted to capture the speed and power of the great buffalo. So small chip, by small chip, he started to shave the empty block of wood.
Pondering, carving; scrutinizing, then dissecting the tiniest flakes of wood, the form of a magnificent, mighty buffalo slowly, gently, gradually came to life. And what a delight for me to be able to share the incredible creation it became!
Ah Creation! I can only imagine our amazing God and the joy he must’ve had as he created the universe. Flinging the stars, whispering the wind into existence, molding and shaping the rugged mountains. And then God breathed air into the lungs and hearts of his people so we could share the joy of his creation with him!
I think one of the ways that we can praise God, is when we too, create. Just as we are created in God’s image, we get to participate with God in the act of creation when we plant a garden or build a business. Or how about a different kind of creation, when we transform blank pages into music, poetry or new ideas to share with others!
And it gets even better! Just think how, when we help others, how we create friendships, peace and harmony. Or how about when we love others?!! Yes – this is creation too. Love creates smiles, joy, unity and purpose. It’s abundant living.
From carved buffalos to love – our God loves it when we create! So, what do you want to create today? Laughter in your home? More peace in your family? A new friendship? Ask our creator God to help you live abundantly as you begin your new creation.
An important first step in creating is to write it down. Please go to the comment section on this video and share something you dream of creating. Let’s inspire each other to create something amazing!
