WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES? – Where Do You Spend Your Time – Daily Devotional
I used to love a good hockey game. I grew up as a rink rat who ate, breathed and slept hockey. When my brothers and I were kids, my mom brought us to hockey practice at 4:30AM and we played on 3 different teams so hockey devoured our family calendar.
I really don’t know what happened since high-school because today I don’t even know where my ice-skates are. Worse than that, I’ve hardly watched more than a dozen hockey games in the last 40 years.
All these “hockey thoughts” swirled through my brain when I met a nice family the other day. The lady’s coat had two powerful words embroidered on her back: “Hockey Mom.” For ten minutes, we struggled to find a time to get together and finally decided to wait for spring – sometime between hockey and baseball seasons.
Of course it made me think about choices and priorities.
How I used to play hockey till the lights were turned off at the rink. Today how I go to bed early so I can wake up refreshed and have time to pray.
How I used to lift weights to be in hockey shape. Today how I exercise my mind with good books and podcasts.
How I used to know every Minnesota North Star hockey player and their stats. Today how most people have never even heard of Gump Worsley or Bill Goldsworthy – just to name two of my hockey hero’s.
So the questions of the day are really simple. . . What are your priorities, and who helps you think them through? How often do you challenge them? What do you really love? And where do you spend your time?
Perhaps it’s a good time to talk about this with your family or friends. Just talking out loud about our priorities is a great way to start on your journey to wherever your headed. The question is simple: Where do you want to go?
