WHEN WE FIND OURSELVES STUCK – God Wants to Help Us – Daily Devotional
If penguins lived in Minnesota, they would’ve hunkered down to fight the blinding snow. But I wasn’t as smart as a penguin, so I ignored the blizzard warnings as I jumped into my 4-wheel-drive truck without a jacket or my phone. After snow-plowing for two hours without incident, an icy snowbank seemed to grab ahold and suck me inside of it. My truck was stuck like chuck. Trapped. Unable to move at all.
I knew I was in trouble and looked in my rear-view mirror to see if I blocked the road and saw another vehicle approaching. It passed me, then did a U-turn in the middle of the street and came back toward me with the window down. The driver with a bushy hat yelled out, “Can I give you a pull?”
It’s funny how this angel was disguised as a regular guy. This angel had a big smile and big jacket to go with his big tow rope, and as quickly as he showed up in my life, he was gone, and I was free again! But make no mistake, either the guy was an angel, or he was sent by an angel. Either way, I’m sure that God was so pleased, that I’ll bet he even smiled!
Some 3000 years ago, King David found himself in trouble, and wrote how he loved when God smiled on his people, knowing that in the end, it was God alone who kept them safe. Psalm 4:6-8
Funny how we all occasionally find ourselves stuck or in trouble. Trouble with finances, our work, relationships. Maybe stuck with a bad habit, a difficult job or just stuck in traffic. In the end, we can find ourselves exhausted or afraid, and not sure where to go.
And this is where you and I can come in. We get a chance to be God’s angels to other people, to give them a leg up, or to pull them out of a ditch. God knows this life can be hard, and who couldn’t be blessed by a leg up today?
I want to make God smile. I want him to smile on me and smile on you.
When God’s angels urge us to act like angels, we can respond. We all have opportunities to help others and to make a difference. Stop and think who needs your help right now. Let’s share this with our friends and encourage everyone we know to be angels today!
