WORKING FOR GOD – Changing Our Perspective on Work – Daily Devotional
Working for God. If we are honest, our workdays can range from awesome to awful, no matter what we do, even when we are working for God. So what if there was an easy way to have more awe – as in awesome – in your work!! Perhaps our first step might be to compare our perspective on work to God’s perspective on work – so we can truly elevate our view. Paul’s letter to his Ephesian friends might help:
Work eagerly as if you were serving your heavenly master and not merely serving human masters. . . You know that there is one master in heaven who has authority over you, no matter who you are, and he doesn’t play favorites. ~ Ephesians 6:5-9.
Paul’s message has a deep and universal truth: that we all serve a true Master in heaven – no matter what our position or employment is on earth. When we understand that the real Boss is the one who created and loves us all the time, it can sure raise our perspective and give us a deep desire to eagerly serve him.
With that in mind, consider these practical steps to gain more enthusiasm for your work! Grab a pen and get ready to carefully ponder your answers. Write these questions down.
- What three things do you like the most about your work?
- What one thing can you do to spice up your work and make it a happier place?
- What one thing can you do differently to make your work more challenging or perhaps less challenging, depending on what your struggle is.
People who love their work are the ones who take time to really and thoughtfully consider these types of questions. Reflection and perspective help to ease our daily grind by allowing God’s perspective on work – to work on you! If you make a habit of staying in touch with these questions, they will move you to find a deeper satisfaction and enthusiasm for your work, or they’ll propel you to find other more meaningful work in your life. Either way, the end result will be a more enthusiastic you!
