QUOTE SCRIPTURE OUT LOUD – Win The Fight Against Temptation – Daily Devotional
Choices, choices. What choice would you make when a blood-sucking mosquito buzzes near your ear like a chainsaw before landing on your arm? Do you ignore it? Do you twitch your skin and hope it will fly away? Do you say I’ll get to it in a minute? Or do you take care of business – and slap that little monster right now?
Your answer just proved that you are indeed capable of making a quick decision! Yes indeed – you are able to make quick decisions without any stress. Quick, lightning fast, automatic pilot decision maker – that is who you can be when you want to be!
When worry, lust or sinful thoughts come your way, we need to slap them – right now. When Satan jiggles your favorite lure before your eyes – lures that he knows you like because you’ve bitten them before – you need to slap them hard. Right now – every time.
Slap them with scripture. That’s what Jesus did when Satan tried to tempt him. Just think, Jesus had been alone fasting in the wilderness for 40 days – he must have been hungry and exhausted – the same condition we are usually in when Satan tries to tempt us. When Satan jiggled temptation, Jesus slapped it by quoting scripture out loud, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Mat 4:4BSB) There was no waiting. It was an Instant reaction.
And you and I can do the same – even if we aren’t Bible scholars!! For example, we all know the Lord’s prayer which begins with the words, “Our Father in heaven.”
When we slap temptation with the words, “Our Father” we get to join voices with thousands – perhaps millions of people around the globe who are at that very moment crying out to God. This God, this Father is “Our” Father. Yours and mine. Together we are fighting the enemy. Together we are lifting each other up to God.
Let’s lift ourselves and each other up to our Father – our Daddy who is stronger than any temptation. Our Dad who is our creator – he is bigger and larger than any sin. Please say, “our Father” out loud with me right now.
Let’s slap those mosquitos. They need to be slapped instantly. Let’s call on our mighty Father and slap sin and temptation the moment it even buzzes. Right now. Everytime. Without hesitation. Our Father.
