THE LORD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU – Daily Devotional – Little Big Things
I have to admit that when I pray I often let my mind drift. I find myself thinking about people, work or a gardening project. Sometimes I catch myself adding or subtracting income and expenses and quiet often – I even fall asleep.
I’ll bet your prayers can drift into dreamland too – and the good news is that we are not alone. The Bible tells us how the disciples fell asleep in the garden of Gethsemane – they even fell asleep three times – and this is after Jesus asked them to stay awake and pray. Mt26:43
I think God understands. He knows we get distracted and tired but loves it when we just rest with him – no matter what’s happening in our lives.
Imagine the terror of Pharaoh’s army chasing the people of Israel to the edge of the Red Sea. There was nowhere to go. The people had no weapons and the fear must have been overwhelming. So guess what the Bible says at that point: “The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. I – the Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Ex14:14
Even in the midst of our biggest battles, God wants us to be still before him!
One of the most quoted verses in the Bible is Psalm 46 that says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Here it is again. . . To be still. To rest. To be quiet, tranquil and hang out with God. To be still. . .
What an amazing thought: Our Father in Heaven loves us so much that he just wants to spend time with us.
To be still and know that I am God. Even when we fall asleep.
