You’ve been cleaning all day but your floor is still a mess so whip out your brand new vacuum cleaner, but it doesn’t even start.  You try plugging the cord into a different outlet – but still nothing.

An angry person might swear, throw the vacuum cleaner or slam down a toilet lid.  On the other hand, an entitled person might yank out the cord – as long as no one was watching – then drive to the store to replace the vacuum.  But while they are alone in the car – they let it all out as they scream or wave their hands in a frenzy.   Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it.

What about a third choice!   I’m not kidding, but what if we could choose pure joy?

The Bible tells us that trials and the testing of our faith produces perseverance that results in pure joy.  How so?  Perseverance makes us stronger, gives us grit, resolve and determination. . .   And then comes the prize. . .  ^{James 1:3}

“When we persevere – we will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” ^{James 1:12}

I’ll bet this crown has all kinds of jewels adorned on it.  Jewels called patience, gentleness and peacefulness.   Can you imagine being adorned with such jewels!!

What pure joy.

Let’s pray, “Dear Jesus, when the next trial comes my way, help me to pray to persevere.  Help me to whisper your powerful name out loud.  Help me to give the situation to you.  Help me to put perseverance into perspective.”
