GOD’S POOR MAN – The Poor Man and Rich Man – Daily Devotional

Have you ever wondered how the people at church really have so little in common?  We churchgoers range from very poor to extremely rich and we often disagree on many things political.  If we were asked to solve any world problem, our answers would be as different as our cultures, languages, incomes, biases and experiences.

Yet by a miracle from God, we all gather together for church.  This is truly a big deal. . .  So big that it deserves the scrutiny of the 100 mile question. . .

Imagine some 3000 years ago – during King David’s time – moving your family from the snowy regions of Mount Hermon to the desert area of Jerusalem – a distance of 100 miles.

Remember there were no paved roads, air-conditioning or way-side rests.   Toss in some crying kids and a barren land with very little shade or fresh water and now we are really talking about a giant distance.  If you were an author in Jerusalem and wanted to describe an incredible expanse that your audience could really appreciate, you might say, “Behold!  It is as far away as Jerusalem is from the dew of Mount Hermon.” Psalm 133:3

And this is exactly how the Bible describes the goodness of God’s people living together in unity.  It is just as miraculous as if the dew of Mount Hermon was falling on Mount Zion – 100 miles away!

Yes – that would be a miracle to behold!

But it’s also a miracle when God’s rich man loves the poor, and God’s poor man loves the rich.  It’s a miracle when God’s people disagree on something important but still agree to love each other and live in unity because of their faith in God.

Psalm 133 says it is a miracle that brings people together around the globe.  This miracle is the one thing that we all have in common.  The miracle of Jesus’ resurrection.  It is an eternal miracle and I like being a part of it.   How about you!?
