Wikipedia says the song, “I Won’t Last A Day Without You” became a hit single for the Carpenters in 1974, reaching number one on the easy listening chart.   The lyrics to this love song beautifully say:

“I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won’t last a day without you”

Way back then, I was 16 years-old and I’d roller-skate backwards swooning to the melody while I held a girl upright (I don’t remember her name but I do remember she could hardly skate) and I’d get lost in the twinkle of her eyes wishing she’d be my girlfriend (which of course never happened).

Fast forward 45 years through a lifetime of win’s and worries I’ve found that the world has plenty of madness in it – from anger to anxiety and everywhere in between.  Jesus was right when he said, “In this world you will have trouble.” But as Jesus finished his sentence, he proclaimed the most amazing truth of all as he said, “Take heart, for I have overcome the world.” ^{John 16:33}

Yes indeed!  Jesus is the answer to “all the madness the world has to give.”   I for one, simply “won’t last a day without Jesus.

When things go wrong, he’s there to hold us up.  When we’ve been beat-down we can know that He’s been beaten too.  As betrayals happen to us, He’s there, knowing, nodding, holding our hand because He went through it too.

On the flip side, his presence makes beauty more beautiful.   He is with us, cheering to make our victories more victorious.  His friendship propels us to be our very best selves and He loves us all the time.

Jesus is my King, my God and my friend.  And I won’t last a day without him.
