ONE DROP AT A TIME – Growing With God – Daily Devotions
Remember how your high-school science teacher had a glass beaker filled with pure water and after dropping one drop of black dye into it, nothing seemed to change. So the teacher added another drop of dye – and still nothing happened. Then another drop and another. I don’t know how many drops it took, but suddenly – seemingly out of nowhere, the water quickly turned black!
Jesus loved teaching in parables in order to help us see the big picture. In Mark 4 Jesus described the kingdom of God to be like a little seed that grows. It’s kind of funny because Jesus basically says, we don’t know how it grows but it sure does grow!
I suppose this can be said about a lot of things in life. No one is born a great musician, gifted doctor or talented mathematician without patience and time.
In the same way, our faith starts as a small seed. When we plant this seed in good soil (such as reading the Bible), and water it (such as going to church) and give it plenty of sunshine (such as reading or listening to Bible based teachings), our faith will become a great harvest worth celebrating!
Seemingly out of no-where, we’ll feel God’s presence in all aspects of our lives. His presence will manifest itself in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control in us, that other people will feel as well!! People will think, and some will even say, “I want whatever you have in your life.”
Can you imagine a bigger compliment!
Let’s pray, “Dear Jesus, we know that your kingdom comes. In the end you will reap your harvest! Help us to plant ourselves in you, so that drop by drop, we can become more like you. We want to join you, in reaping your great harvest that is sure to come!”
