Seek FIRST the Kingdom of God – Daily Devotional

Heat seeking missiles work by tracking the hot infrared emissions of a jet engine.  Some of these heat seekers can be launched at Mach 10 which is about 7500 miles per hour.  How fast is that for chasing after what you want!

You know that we are all seekers who are chasing after something.  The question is simply what do you seek first and foremost in your life?

Some people are like heat seeking missiles who lust after body heat but end up with empty sex.  Many throughout history have sought money for their security, but in the end, on their death bed they left all their securities behind.

Today it seems like lots of people chase the fountain of youth – but no matter how many protein shakes or the hours at the gym – they too will get old and die.  Some seek popularity only to find it as fleeting and unsatisfying as a million alleged internet friends.

I know some people who have worried about and desired safety above all.  These folks were so afraid of the world that they huddled into their locked houses and filled their minds with news of the world’s woes.  As they played life safe, they breathed air but never truly lived.

So what do you seek first and foremost?  What do you think about?

Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God above all else.” Matthew 6:33 NLT

Why would Jesus say this?  Was he trying to control us?  Was he after our money?  Or do you think Jesus said it because he knows what truly satisfies our hearts!  Jesus, the maker who made us, knows what will truly make us happy.

By the way, Mach 10 in a heat seeking missile is nothing to Jesus.  When he created the stars, he flung them out so fast that scientists say the universe is still expanding faster than we can even count!

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and he will give you everything you need.
