WAKE UP EVERY MORNING WITH GOD – Morning Inspiration – Daily Devotional

Why do some people wake up every morning singing, “Praise God for a new morning!” while others often wake up and groan, “Oh god, its morning?”  Let’s discover a secret way to ensure being in the first group.

First we need to know that for thousands of years (long before clocks were ever used) a new day began at sunset – when the old day ended.   Let’s use this idea to gain some fresh “God power” for our mornings!

Let’s start by remembering the first time you “fell in love” as a teenager:  You’ll probably recall how your last thoughts before bed were about your new-found love and so were your first thoughts in the morning.   This silly little poem may stir your first romantic memories:

You’re the last thought of my night

And my first thought of my morning

I think of you – just right

And even when I’m snoring

The point is that when we deliberately choose our last thoughts before bed, we get the opportunity to subconsciously carry those thoughts forward into the first thoughts of the next morning.   We deliberately set the tone for how we will sleep and how we will wake.

How different would your life be, if every night before bed, you spent quiet time in thoughtful prayer and thanksgiving?

Consider how Psalm 92 says, Praise the Lord for His love in the morning and His faithfulness at night.  Now think of the very first Psalm – the Psalm that sets the very tone for all the other Psalms to follow as it says, “Blessed is the one who delights in the Lord day and night.” Psalm 1

I think that God wants to be like that first teenage love where we think of him as our last thoughts of the night, so He becomes our first thoughts of every new day.

What are your last thoughts before you sleep?   Imagine the joy of starting each new day with “Praise God for morning!”
